How to properly stress-test an used GPU, especially the ones used for mining purposes
Hi everyone! Here we have a look at a tool I often use when I buy used GPUs on the online or offline used market, in which there are tons of GPUs used (and abused!) for mining and crypto network purposes.
The tool is memtest_vulkan, you can download the latest release here.
How it works
It simulates a high load and memory stress test and fillup and checks for errors and incongruences in the results.
You download it on a Windows or Linux machine, you run it and you let it run for 10 minutes.
If it shows:
- No errors: you're lucky to have found a good GPU! Yay!
- Some errors: return it as fast as you can, it has some hardware problems not worth addressing by yourself!
Conclusions
It has saved my ass multiple times during eBay shopping, I hope it will help you too and save you some money and time!
